First Half Goal Enough as Tigers Defeat Vikings in SAA Opener

Box Score

SEWANEE, Tenn. - A 27th minute goal and stellar defense was all the Tigers need to earn the win on Tuesday night at Puett Field, as Sewanee is victorious over Berry, 1-0, in the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) opener for both squads.

In the 27th minute, Elizabeth "Clay" McKnight netted her third goal of the season off a Walker Poe assist.

The Tigers (3-5-1, 1-0-0) posted a strong defense, limiting the Berry (1-4-1, 0-1-0) defense to one shot in the first half.

Leading the Sewanee defense is back-up goalie Savannah Williams, who earned her first win in goal with a clean sheet with four saves.

The Tigers will wrap up their six-game homestand on Saturday, when Oglethorpe comes to the mountain. Kickoff is scheduled for Saturday at 4 p.m. from The Pit.
