Sewanee pulls away from Transy in the second half

Box Score

SEWANEE, Tenn. (Feb. 25, 2017) – After a close start, the Sewanee men's lacrosse team pulled away from Transylvania for an 11-3 win Saturday at historic Hardee-McGee Field at Harris Stadium.

With the victory, Sewanee improved to 2-1 this season while Transy fell to 0-2.

After Hayden Hunt scored off an assist from Joe Randazzo, which gave Sewanee an early 1-0 lead, Transy answered back with an unassisted goal from Zach Roby. Just under a minute later, Sewanee retook the lead when Jimmy Parker found Thomas Lynde outside the defense, who fired home a one-timer in the 11th minute.

Over the next 15 minutes, Transy continued to hang around. The Pioneers took a 3-2 lead after goals from Josh Mesmer and Thompson Summers.

From there, Sewanee responded. Starting with a goal from Tristian Robinson with 3:09 left in the second quarter, Sewanee outscored Transy 9-0 the rest of the contest.

During that stretch, Hunt, Pat DiMento, Lynde, Kip McGuire, Peter Brown, and Will Pratt all scored.

Those goals were part of Sewanee's 44-23 advantage in shots. Individually, Hunt led the offense with three goals and an assist. Brown and Lynde each had two goals while Parker added three assists. On defense, Stewart Roddey, Ian Marr, and Joe Randazzo all had two caused turnovers while keeper Selby Austin finished with eight saves.

Ryan Stubits led Sewanee in faceoffs with eight wins in 10 attempts.

Keeper Cooper Fogle played well for Transy with 13 saves while faceoff specialist Paul Stickel went 8-of-17.

Sewanee returns to action by hosting No. 19 Roanoke with a 1:00 p.m. match March 4th.
