Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. - Methodist used a 37-28 second half to defeat the Sewanee men's basketball team, 64-60, Sunday afternoon in the 2017 finale of the Lon Varnell Classic inside Juhan Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Six ties and 10 lead changes were a huge factor in the contest. No team did not have more than a seven-point lead in the contest.
-Down 20-13 with 7:07 left in the first half, the Tigers went on a 15-2 run in 4:21 span to take a 28-22 lead before going into the locker room with a 32-27 halftime lead.
-Adrian Thomas made a layup to start the second half to give the Tigers the seven-point advantage, 34-27, but Methodist went on a 12-5 run in over a five-minute span to event the score at 39.
-The teams went back-and-forth from there, with no team having a lead more than two scoring possessions. Luke Smith drained a key three-pointer to give the Tigers the 58-57 advantage with 5:07 left in regulation.
-With 3:28 left, Methodist retook the lead on a jumper, 59-58. However, Thomas responded with a layup of his own to make it 60-59 in favor of the home team with three minutes to go.
-The Tigers were unable to find the bottom of the net again, missing their last five shots, as Methodist iced the contest at the free throw line.
SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Jonny Crumly stepped up in a big way after Thomas went down due to foul trouble. He played 29 minutes and scored 21 points on 7-for-9 shooting, 6-for-8 from downtown. He also grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double.
-Hunter Buescher scored 12 points, while Luke Smith dropped 10 points and assisted on three Sewanee shots.
METHODIST KEY STATISTICS
-Davion Ayabarreno dropped 17 points to lead the Monarchs.
-Bryan Rouse scored 16 points with five boards.
