Sewanee Falls Short at Birmingham-Southern in SAA Action

Box Score

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Sewanee women's soccer team were unable to rally from a two-goal deficit, as the Tigers fall to the Panthers of Birmingham-Southern, 3-2, Friday night from Goldfarb Field.

Before fans could get settled into the contest, Mary "Sissy" Frank netted her third goal of the year 14 seconds into the contest, missing the NCAA record by eight seconds.

Birmingham-Southern responded in the 20th minute, as Nicole Bernal found Abby Kay Choate's pass on a fast break to tie the match up at one goal apiece.

BSC (11-2-0, 3-0-0) would find the goal again late in the first half. After BSC's Bailey Gardner went to a corner kick at the 38:34 mark, Eva Byrum scored 17 seconds later on an 18-yard kick.

Leading 2-1 at halftime, the Panthers notched the third goal of the contest thanks to a Taylor Andrews kick in the 58th minute.

Sewanee (4-6-1, 2-1-0) attempted a comeback. Kiley Ezzell netted her second goal of the season in the 80th minute to make it 3-2 in favor of the home team.

The Tigers, in the last 10 minutes, tried to net the game-tying goal, but the two shots they took were high.

Savannah Williams (2-1-0) saved six attempted goals from the Panthers.

The Tigers will next travel to Jackson, Miss. to take on Millsaps College on Sunday.
