Box Score BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (April 23, 2016) – Despite scoring three runs in the top of the ninth, the Sewanee baseball team's season came to end, Saturday, as Millsaps held on for a 7-4 win in an elimination game in the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Tournament at Striplin Field.
The Tigers close their 2016 season with a 5-35 overall record. That included four wins in the SAA.
After Millsaps scored six runs through the first five innings, Sewanee finally got on the board when Beau Allen doubled in Kyle Schnell with two outs in the top of the sixth.
The Majors then added a run of their own which extended their lead to 7-1 heading into the final inning. After leadoff hitter Drew Mancuso opened the inning with a walk, Ryan Poole reached on a fielder's choice. A batter later, Derek Hullings drove in Mancuso with an RBI single past the Millsaps shortstop.
Sewanee continued to rally when Tyler Minkinen drew a one-out walk. Josh Roberts then drew a bases-loaded walk, which scored Poole.
After Jackson Cooper popped out to short, Allen singled in Hullings. Then with the bases loaded and two outs, Hayden Williams got Trey Akins to pop out in foul territory, which ended the game.
Overall, Allen led the Tigers with two hits while Lee Ogletree finished 2-for-4 with three RBI for the Majors.
On the mound, Millsaps pitchers Barrett Kaul and Chris Guerin were outstanding through the first seven innings. Kaul allowed only three hits and a run while striking out nine in 6.1 innings. Guerin struck out two in 1.2 innings of relief.
