Box Score ATLANTA (April 10, 2016) – Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival Oglethorpe rallied from a run down in the ninth inning for a 9-8 win over the Sewanee baseball team, Sunday, at Anderson Field.
Sewanee jumped out front early as Trey Akins ripped a one-out double that scored Jackson Cooper in the top of the first. Two batters later, Ryan Poole also doubled down the left-field line, which plated Akins.
An inning later, Tony Dykes opened the top of the second with a solo homerun to left.
The score remained in favor of Sewanee until the bottom of the third. Over the next two innings, OU took a 5-3 lead after the Stormy Petrels had five hits, which included two homeruns. First, Adrian Celata crushed a two-out blast that scored three in the third. An inning later, Austin Ferlita hit a two-run homer in the fourth.
Sewanee tied the game in the top of the fifth. With one out, Drew Mancuso and Poole each singled in runs.
The Tigers then took a 6-5 lead when Poole scored on a throwing error by the OU catcher.
After OU scored two in the bottom of the inning, Sewanee answered back in the top of the ninth. First, Derek Hullings drove in Cooper with an RBI SAC bunt. After Akins walked and stole second, Mancuso drove in the Tiger shortstop with a single to center.
Unfortunately, Sewanee could not hold the lead in the ninth. With reliever Harrison Lee in, Celata blasted his third homerun of the game, a two-run walk-off, which gave OU the victory.
Overall, Cooper, Mancuso, and Poole each had three hits. That included two doubles by Cooper and Poole.
Lee took the loss in relief for the Tigers while Justin Thigpen earned the win despite allowing two runs in the top of the ninth.
Sewanee closes out the regular season against Centre next weekend.
