Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. (March 25, 2016) – Two runs in the first inning helped Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival Hendrix to a 3-2 victory over the Sewanee baseball team, Friday, at historic Montgomery Field.
The Warriors opened the first as Jorge Leon scored on a wild pitch. Then on an attempt to steal second, Hendrix plated its next run when Wyatt Hogan scored on the play.
Hendrix added its final run in the top of the third when J.R. McAuley doubled in Tanner Cooper with two outs. Matthew Lillard tried to score also on the double, however, he was thrown out by Derek Hullings on a great outfield assist to home.
Sewanee finally got on the board in the bottom of the inning, as Beau Allen scored on a Hendrix error.
The Tigers did manage to score one final time in the bottom of the ninth, as Tony Dykes reached home on a SAC fly by Kyle Schnell.
Overall, Ryan Poole and Josh Roberts led Sewanee at the plate with two hits.
A big reason for the lack of runs was Hendrix starter Harley Faye. Faye allowed one run while striking out eight with 8.0 innings.
