Box Score

SEWANEE, Tenn. (March 16, 2016) – Despite 13 hits and rallying back from an early 7-0 deficit, the Sewanee baseball team fell to in-state rival Maryville, 12-8, in 11 innings, Wednesday, at historic Montgomery Field.

After Maryville scored a run in the first, five in the second, and one in third, Sewanee was quickly down 7-0 entering the fourth inning.

With two runners in scoring position and one out, Drew Mancuso ripped a two-RBI single. After a second straight single from Derek Hullings, Beau Allen crushed a two-out RBI single that scored Mancuso.

Even after Maryville changed pitchers, leadoff hitter Trey Akins singled in both Allen and Hullings before the inning ended.

The Tigers eventually added to their lead in the bottom of the seventh. With two outs and the bases loaded, Mancuso doubled in Tony Dykes, Jackson Cooper, and Akins.

However, with one out in the top of the ninth, Chris Evans grounded out to short, which brought in Mackenzie Jackson for Maryville.

Then in the top of the 11th, the Scots added four runs on just two hits.

Overall, Mancuso led the Tigers at the plate with a 3-for-5 performance and five RBI. Dykes, Cooper, and Allen each finished with two hits.

Throwing 11 pitchers, Maryville reliever Joe Jones earned the win after he finished the final 2.0 innings of the game. Tyler Minkkinen took the loss for Sewanee after he gave all four runs in the 11th. Overall, Sewanee had eight pitchers throw.
