Baseball falls in series finale to Berry, 12-2

SEWANEE, Tenn. (Feb. 28, 2016) – Despite three hits from Jackson Cooper, the Sewanee baseball team dropped a 12-2 game against Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival Berry, Sunday, at historic Montgomery Field.

Sewanee took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first as Cooper singled in Tyler Minkkinen with two outs. A batter later, Ryan Poole drove in Cooper.

Despite the early lead, the Tigers could not keep their lead. Berry answered back with runs the next three innings before adding five runs in the top of the seventh.

Overall, Minkkinen and Poole joined Cooper with multiple hits. Sewanee starter Andrew Naspinski took the loss after he allowed three runs in 3.0 innings. TJ Montgomery, the Berry starter, picked up the win after he shut down Sewanee by allowing only two runs and eight hits while striking out five in 6.0 innings.

Sewanee returns to action on Tuesday with a 2:00 p.m. (EST) game at regional-rival Covenant.
