Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. (Feb. 13, 2016) – The Sewanee men's lacrosse team opened its 2016 season in dominate fashion as the host Tigers hammered NCAA Division II regional-rival Alabama-Huntsville, 17-2, Saturday, at historic Hardee-McGee Field at Harris Stadium.
The Tigers scored five goals in each of the first three quarters before adding two more goals in the fourth. The visiting Chargers, playing their first-ever match in program history, added to second-half goals.
Overall, sophomore Robbie Berndt started this season how he finished 2015. The reigning SAA Newcomer of the Year scored five goals on seven shots. Senior Cotter Brown also played well with three goals, four assists, a ground ball, and a caused turnover.
Additionally, newcomer Pat DiMento added two goals and two assists while Thomas Lynde finished with a pair of goals.
Also scoring for the Tigers on Saturday were Peter Brown, George Pratt, Brooks Young, Will Pratt, and Tristan Robinson. Brown also finished with three assists.
On defense, keepers Selby Austin earned the win after he stopped three shots. Browning Altizer, Ed Haubenreiser, and Tal Wharton combined for three saves in the second half.
Overall, the Tigers forced 28 UAH turnovers and added 33 ground balls.
Nicolas Shelton and Colton Nall had the two goals for the Chargers.
Sewanee returns to action on February 21st against Guilford. That match is scheduled for noon.
