Tigers cruise past Stormy Petrels, 23-1

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Colin Bennett, Peter Gaudion, and Sam Ramberg each recorded hat tricks as Sewanee's men's lacrosse team rolled past Oglethorpe, 23-1, on Saturday afternoon to remain unbeaten in conference play.

Robert Freeman led the Tigers with five points on two goals and three assists, while Gaudion and Ramberg each added three goals. Bennett also finished with three goals, and Harrison Fuller chipped in two goals. Will Kennedy contributed two assists, while Henry Westfall added two assists and three ground balls.

Defensively, Sewanee controlled possession throughout, holding a 56-21 advantage in ground balls. Beau Burnette recorded four ground balls, and two caused turnovers, while Charlie Hanson and Gus Albright each added a caused turnover.

At the faceoff X, Max Bensing went 12-of-14 with five ground balls, while Benton Sullivan finished 12-of-13 with four ground balls as the Tigers dominated possession.

In goal, Flynn Bowman earned the win, while Jaser Amer and Hayden Regan combined for three saves over the final three quarters.

Sewanee wasted no time taking control, scoring the game's first 12 goals in the opening quarter. JM DuPree opened the scoring off an assist from Freeman, and the Tigers quickly built momentum with goals from Freeman, Charles Moran, and Sage Cookerly.

The run continued as Bennett, Gaudion, and Ramberg each found the back of the net, with Ramberg scoring twice during the stretch. Albright, Bennett, and Fuller added late goals in the quarter as Sewanee built a commanding 12-0 lead after one.

The Tigers extended their advantage in the second quarter, adding three more goals while holding Oglethorpe scoreless. Fuller opened the period, Burnette followed with a goal off an assist from Chris Rothenberger, and Bennett capped the half with his third goal to give Sewanee a 15-0 lead at the break.

Sewanee continued its offensive surge in the third quarter, scoring seven more times. Corbet Darden opened the period with a goal off a Freeman assist, while Rothenberger and Ramberg added goals shortly after. Aiden Feltman and Gaudion each contributed, and goals from Jake Greene and Hank Walsh pushed the lead to 22-0 heading into the final quarter.

Gaudion completed his hat trick early in the fourth quarter before Oglethorpe broke up the shutout with a late goal.

Sewanee outshot Oglethorpe 48-9 and won 25 of 28 faceoffs in the contest.

The Tigers return to action next weekend as they continue conference play.
