Despite a double-double from Stone, Sewanee falls against Methodist

ATLANTA (Dec. 30, 2016)  Despite a 27-point, 16-rebound double-double from senior Brody Stone, the Sewanee men's basketball team could not overcome the hot shooting of Methodist falling to the Monarchs 77-66, Thursday, at Oglethorpe.

Methodist made 50 percent of its overall field goals as well as half of its three-point attempts.

After Methodist jumped in front with an early lead, Sewanee answered back. A three by Clay Born, followed by points from Stone and Leo Born, pushed Sewanee in front 11-7 with less than five minutes gone in the first half.

The score remained close until 10-4 run by Methodist helped the Monarchs pull ahead 27-22. From there, Methodist never looked back. The Monarchs led the rest of the game, which included by the largest margin in the contest, 19 points, with 9:35 to play.

Along with Stone, Jorden Williams finished with 14 points while Clay Born added 12 points and five rebounds. Daniel Ayabarreno and Rae Hall both paced Methodist with 21 points. Jackson Whitley was the other player in double figures with 15 points to go along with 12 boards.

Sewanee will stay on the road in its next contest when the Tigers travel to Piedmont for a 7:00 p.m. (EST) tipoff, Tuesday. Sewanee defeated the Lions inside Juhan Gymnasium on November 22nd by a score of 52-51.
