Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. (Nov. 18, 2016) – Led by three players in double figures, the Sewanee men's basketball team opened the Lon Varnell Classic with a 76-47 win over visiting Boyce College, Friday, inside Juhan Gymnasium.
Brody Stone and Hunter Buescher, who each finished with 13 points, paced Sewanee. Freshman Adrian Thomas also played well with 10 points and seven rebounds.
After a slow start, Sewanee settled in. The Tigers made 46.7 percent of their attempts in the opening half which led to an eight-point, 36-28, halftime lead.
Eventually, Sewanee led by as much as 29 with 41 seconds left in the contest.
As a team, Sewanee finished 28-of-59 (47.5 percent) from the floor. That included nine threes and 28 points in the paint.
Hampered by Sewanee's pressure defense, Boyce made 33.3 percent of its shots and had 20 turnovers.
Guard Trey Stewart led Boyce with 22 points and 10 rebounds.
Sewanee quickly returns to action with a 3:00 p.m. game against Johnson on Saturday. Behind an incredible shooting percentage, the Royals topped Oglethorpe 113-85 in the other game Friday evening.
