Lipscomb's size hinders Sewanee as Tigers fall in final exhibition, 96-53

Box Score

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Nov. 11, 2016)  A week after playing NCAA Division I member Austin Peay to under 20 points, the Sewanee men's basketball team closed out its exhibition season with a 96-53 loss at D-I in-state foe Lipscomb, Friday, inside Allen Arena.

Unlike their performance in Clarksville, Tenn., the Tigers struggled against the Bisons. Sewanee was limited to a 35.6 field goal percentage. That included a 5-for 22 performance from beyond the three-point arc. To compare, Sewanee made 15 threes at Austin Peay.

After a slow start for both teams, Lipscomb took a 5-3 lead after a jumper from Rob Marberry. After another jumper from the LU post, Sewanee sophomore guard Hunter Buescher hit his second field goal right before the first media timeout to cut the Lipscomb lead to two, 7-5.

Sewanee kept the score close over the next four minutes. A three by freshman Adrian Thomas cut the Lipscomb lead to one, 11-10. However, LU answered back with a 19-3 run over the next seven minutes. Senior Jorden Williams actually slowed the Lipscomb spurt with his first two points of the game with 6:04 left in the first half.

From there, Lipscomb took a 20-point lead into halftime, 42-22. In the second half, the Bisons did not let up. Lipscomb never led by less than 20 points in the final half.

Individually, Williams paced Sewanee with 13 points. However, LU did hold Williams to only five field goals on 15 attempts. Buescher also finished in double digits with 12 points.

Again limited because of foul trouble, Brody Stone finished with eight points. The senior Knoxville, Tenn., native did lead the Tigers with nine rebounds.

Marberry led Lipscomb with 22 points and eight rebounds. He was four Bisons in double figures. Josh Williams (14), Nathan Moran (12), Aaron Korn (13), and George Brammeier (10) all had at least 10 points.

With its exhibition season completed, Sewanee will open its 2016-17 campaign under first-year head coach Bradley Pierson with a 6:00 p.m. game at Emory & Henry on Tuesday.
