ROME, Ga. (Jan. 31, 2016) – Over the past couple of seasons, the Sewanee men's basketball team has been known for balanced scoring a great defense. On Sunday, the visiting Tigers took that to a new level as Sewanee had all five starters score at least 12 points in an 80-65 win over Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival Berry, Sunday, inside the Cage Center.

Freshman guard Cody Jones, who finished with 18 points on 5-of-9 shooting, led the Tigers. Junior forward Brody Stone added 16 points and a career-high 15 rebounds. Junior guard Jacob McCullough added 13 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and five steals while senior forward Keshonn Carter finished with a 12-point, 11-rebound double-double. Finally, junior guard Clay Born added 12 points while making all but one of his attempts.

Additionally, Carter became only the 13th Tiger in school history with 1,000 points and 500 career rebounds. Carter now has 1,004 points, 559 rebounds, and 86 career blocks.

With the victory, Sewanee has a strong command of second place in the SAA standings with a 6-2 record. Birmingham-Southern remains in first place with an 8-0 record while Centre, Oglethorpe, and Berry are all now 4-4.

After a close start, Sewanee slowly built its lead after Jones hit a three with 15:47 left in the first half. The Tigers pushed the early advantage to eight after a layup by Seth Brown and a jumper from Carter.

Eventually, Sewanee led by as much as 17, 26-9, with another Jones three. Prior to that make, Sewanee outscored Berry 14-5.

Even after the Vikings scored the last five points in the first half, the Tigers had an 11-point, 36-25, halftime lead.

In the final 20 minutes, Sewanee did not let up. Berry closed the gap to within nine points, 45-36, when Blake Scherrman made a three with 12:47 to play. However, that was the final time Berry was down by only single digits.

As a team, Sewanee made a season-high 54.3 percent of its shots. That included a 53.3 three-point percentage. On defense, Sewanee limited Berry to a 34.3 field-goal percentage and 14 turnovers. That led to 18 Sewanee points.

Guard Caleb Johnson led Berry with 21 points after he took 21 shot attempts.
