Box Score

ATLANTA (Jan. 29, 2016) – Led by 21 points from freshman Cody Jones, the Sewanee men's basketball team rallied from a halftime deficit to defeat Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival Oglethorpe, Friday, inside Dorough Field House.

The Tigers are now 12-6 overall and 5-2 in SAA play. The Tigers are now in second place in the SAA standings behind leader Birmingham-Southern. The Panthers remained unbeaten with a 70-59 win at Rhodes, Friday.

After a close first five minutes, Oglethorpe led 12-7 when Will Perry hit a three. The Stormy Petrels continued their hot-shooting when Connor Smith hit another three on Oglethorpe's next possession.

From there, Sewanee rallied back. A jumper from Jacob McCullough opened a 7-1 run by the Tigers. In fact, it was McCullough that scored all seven points, which tied the contest at 20-20.

The Tigers then took a 25-23 lead when Brody Stone hit a layup with 2:17 left in the first half. However, OU closed the first half when Chase Wardlaw, Chris Lawrence, and George Andino helped the Stormy Petrels score the final eight points.

Sewanee took the lead back early in the second half after back-to-back threes by Jones. That opened a 12-2 run by Sewanee.

After OU regained the lead behind the play of Andino and Stefan Britvar, Sewanee chipped away at its seven-point deficit. A traditional three-point play by Keshonn Carter sparked an 11-3 run by Sewanee over the next five possessions.

With the score tied 62-62 with 2:01 left, Carter blocked a Tom Inungu shot. He then grabbed the ensuing rebound and made a layup as the Tigers raced down the court. OU would then call timeout with under a minute to play. After two Stormy Petrels free throws, Stone hit a clutch three with 19 seconds left.

From there, Clay Born made one final free throw with four seconds left that finalized the score.

Along with Jones's 21 points, McCullough had 13 points on 6-of-12 shooting. Carter also played well with seven points, nine rebounds, two blocks, and two assists.

Perry led OU with 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting.

Sewanee returns to action with a key 3:00 p.m. (EST) game at Berry, Sunday.
