Big innings help Oglethorpe open series with a win

SEWANEE, Tenn. (April 2, 2015) – Two big innings propelled Southern Athletic Association (SAA) foe Oglethorpe to a 9-1 opening-series win over the Sewanee baseball team at historic Montgomery Field.

The visiting Stormy Petrels scored four runs in the top of the second and then added five more in the top of the fifth.

Sewanee got on the board late the in the contest when Gus Myer doubled in Blake Bays from second.

Tiger starter Mike O'Neil was charged with the loss after giving up four runs on eight hits in just 1.2 innings.

OU starter did pitch well after giving up just one run and seven hits while striking out seven in 7.0 innings.

Sewanee had seven total hits while Bays, Jackson Cooper, and Myer all had doubles.

Oglethorpe and Sewanee will continue their three-game series with a noon doubleheader, Saturday.
