Box Score

SEWANEE, Tenn. (April 24, 2015) – An overtime game-winning goal by Peter Brown off an assist from Robbie Berndt capped off an impressive 11-10 comeback overtime win for the Sewanee men's lacrosse team Friday afternoon against Birmingham-Southern.

The Tigers rallied from three goals down in regulation to overcome the Panthers during semifinal action of the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Tournament at historic Hardee-McGee Field at Harris Stadium.

After Sewanee led by one goal at the end of the first period, the scored remained close in the second. After BSC tied the game at 3-3, Berndt scored his first goal at 8:49. BSC then closed the second with goals by Evan Lalande and David Arnold.

Sewanee would tie the game at 5-5 to open the scoring in the third when George Bukawyn scored a man-up goal off a pass from Jimmy Parker.

Parker would go on and score four minutes later to tie the score at 6-6 following another BSC goal.

Unfortunately, BSC would take control of the game over the next five minutes. A 3-0 run by the Panthers gave BSC a 9-6 advantage with 11:32 left. Matthew Stiefel then cut the BSC deficit to two with his second goal of the afternoon.

However, BSC would answer right back when Arnold scored again less than three minutes later.

With 2:38 left, Sewanee started its comeback. Berndt netted a man-down goal off an assist from Stiefel. That set up a goal by Bukawyn off a pass from Cotter Brown at 1:34. Sewanee then won the ensuing faceoff as time ticked down.

With 43 seconds remaining, Parker made one man miss and ripped in a shot that sent the game into overtime.

Sewanee then wasted little time scoring after Ford Moriarty earned another key win on the faceoff. That set up the game-winner by Brown after a missed shot was picked up by Berndt behind the goal.

Overall, Sewanee was led by Bukawyn, who finished with three goals. Additionally Brown, Parker, Stiefel, and Berndt all finished with two goals.

On defense, Selby Austin earned the win after stopping 11 BSC shots.

Arnold led BSC with five goals and two assists.

Sewanee advance to its third straight SAA Final, Sunday. The Tigers will take rival Berry at 1:00 p.m.
