Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. (Feb. 13, 2015) – Despite a slow offensive start, the Sewanee men's lacrosse team rolled over visiting Colorado College 11-5, Friday, at historic Hardee-McGee Field at Harris Stadium.
After both teams failed to find the back of the net early, Sewanee finally broke through when George Bukawyn ripped a one-time shot from teammate Peter Brown late in the first quarter.
Sewanee would add to its advantage midway through the second period when sophomore Hayden Byrd scored off a pass from Wil Rainer. Colorado got on the board two minutes later when Robert Stern made one defender miss and scored past Sewanee keeper Selby Austin.
The Tigers answered right back with goals by Bukawyn and freshman Robbie Berndt late in the half.
After halftime, Sewanee's offense went off. The Tigers scored four straight goals in the third period to lead by seven, 8-1. During that stretch, Byrd, Bukawyn (twice), and Peter Brown all scored.
In the final period Cotter Brown (twice) and Bukawyn finalized the Tiger goals. Colorado would add four late scores, however the outcome was already at hand.
Making his first career start, Austin played well. The sophomore from Memphis, Tenn., earned the win with nine saves. Chase Murphy took the loss for Colorado despite stopping 11 shots.
The Tigers also forced 17 turnovers and had 24 groundballs.
