Tigers fall to SAA Champion Hendrix, 19-0

Box Score

SEWANEE, Tenn. (Nov. 14, 2015) – Despite limiting the top offensive team in the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) to its lowest point total this fall, 2015 SAA Champion Hendrix defeated the Sewanee football team 19-0, Saturday, at historic Hardee-McGee Field at Harris Stadium.

Sewanee finished its 121st season with a 1-9 overall record. The Warriors will head into the postseason with an 8-2 mark.

After taking the opening kickoff, Sewanee drove inside the Hendrix red-zone. After a three-yard gain by senior tailback Devante Jones, the drive stalled. Senior quarterback Kevin Bolak had back-to-back rushes to the Hendrix eight. However, on fourth and three Bolak's pass to receiver Steven Hearn fell incomplete after Caleb Shannon pressured him.

Hendrix quickly responded on its first drive. Starting at the eight, quarterback Seth Peters found Spencer Smith for a 30-yard pass play. After a run by Peters, the Hendrix signal caller found Smith again for 35 yards. That set up a 20-yard touchdown run by Dayton Winn.

After Hendrix missed the ensuing extra point, Sewanee went back to work. Despite solid runs by Andy Moots and Cohen Howard, the drive failed at the Hendrix 48.

The Warriors took over after All-American candidate John Cleveland had a 38-yard punt to the Hendrix 10. From there, it was Winn that took over for Hendrix.

On the drive, the Warrior tailback rushed for 42 yards on two carries. After Peters found Ben Luedtke with a 20-yard pass to the Sewanee one, Winn leaped into the end zone on the next play.

Again Hendrix missed its extra point attempt.

The score remained 12-0 until late in the contest. After Zac Wilson intercepted Bolak at the Sewanee 39, Peters found Ethan Hoppe on a fade pattern from 27-yards out for the final touchdown.

Despite not scoring, Sewanee stayed in the game with great ball possession. Sewanee rushed for 216 yards while leading in time of possession by 23 minutes.

Individually, senior defensive end Brandon Campbell played well with seven tackles and 1.5 tackles for a loss.

Additionally, senior Alex Kops finished with four stops, an interception, and one pass break-up.

John Donald paced Hendrix on defense with eight tackles. Winn finished with 108 rushing yards and two scores while Peters was 12-of-21 for 201 passing yards and a touchdown.
