SEWANEE, Tenn. (Jan. 31, 2015) – On a day when the Sewanee swimming and diving teams honored an outstanding senior class, it was four-year letterwinner Brian Glatt that led the Tigers against NCAA power and regional-rival Emory, Saturday, inside the Fowler Center.
Emory entered the meet ranked No. 3 nationally in the latest men's poll. The Eagles also rank No. 1 in the women's poll after winning the last five NCAA Division III Championships.
Glatt won the men's 50 free with a time of 22.12 seconds. The senior then earned a first-place finish in the men's 100 free with a mark of 48.22 seconds. After placing third in the men's 100 butterfly, Glatt led the Tiger team of seniors David Dan, Matthew Karstens, and junior Will Ralston to a first-place finish in the 200 free relay (1:35.03).
Glatt also helped Sewanee earn four points in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:40.96.
On the diving board, Sewanee swept all four events. On the men's side, junior Courtney Moore won the 1-meter event with 202.90 points. He then took first in the 3-meter event with 157.05 points.
On the women's side, senior Grace Cobbs earned a sweep with 179.35 points in the 1-meter dive and 176.45 points in the 3-meter competition.
In the women's 200 individual medley, sophomore Caty Hueske finished first ahead of teammate Erin Neil. Hueske finished with a time of 2:19.33 while Neil touched the wall in 2:26.10.
Sewanee then swept the 200 IM when Jackson Cromer won the men's race with a time of 2:06.78.
Finally, the Tigers earned the women's 200 free relay title when Meghan Mulhern, Carolyn Rice, Anna Thorson, and Hueske swam a time of 1:48.77.
Saturday marked the final home meet for Glatt, Dan, Karstens, Charles Boclair III, David Evans, Matthew Karstens, Cobbs, Brittney Keiper, Drew Smith, and Jean Murray.
Sewanee will now get ready for the annual Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Championships in Birmingham, Ala. The four-day meet will take place from February 11-14.
