Meckstroth continues to dominate; Sewanee improves to 4-0 with win

BIRMINGHAM (Sept. 6, 2014) – Two goals and one assist from sophomore Shelby Meckstroth helped the Sewanee women's soccer team improved to a 4-0 this season with a 3-1 win over Maryville, Saturday, in Birmingham, Ala.

Meckstroth added her seventh and eight goals of the season and her third assist.

Sewanee got on the board first, as Tasha Saunders scored for the second straight day with 16:40 off the clock.

Meckstroth would then add her first goal, before Maryville finally broke through late in the first half.

Sewanee stayed ahead 2-1 until the final minute of the match. That was when Meckstroth drove in her second goal with seven seconds remaining.

Overall, Sewanee's offense continued to dominate. The Tigers outshot Maryville, 33-10. The Tigers also had a 9-3 advantage in corners.

Sewanee continues its non-conference season with a 7:00 p.m. match, Wednesday, against NAIA foe Trevecca.
