Box Score LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 28, 2014) – The Sewanee field hockey team rebounded from its loss on Saturday by shutting out Southern Athletic Association (SAA) affiliate Transylvania 4-0, Sunday, at Pat Deacon Stadium.
The Tigers (3-5, 2-2 SAA) scored their first goal with zero time left in the first half. After being awarded a penalty corner, Sarah Barry fired in a pass from Virginia Barry.
Despite only one goal in the first half, Sewanee outshot the Pioneers, 13-2.
Out of the locker, the Tigers added their second goal in the 64th minute. This time it was Virginia Barry scoring off a pass from Sarah Barry.
Minutes later Virginia Barry scored again, which gave Sewanee a 3-0 advantage.
Finally, after a great defensive play by the Tigers, Allegra Massey-Elim found Sarah Barry at midfield who then dribbled past a defender and the Transy keeper to score the final time.
As a team, Sewanee finished with a 28-3 advantage in shots. The Tigers also added 12 penalty corners.
Sewanee's 28 shots tied its second-highest mark this season.
On defense Margaret Knudsen, Zuie Billings, Kate Roe, Massey-Elim, Ellen Copper, Catherine Estes, Janie Spilman, Katie Wilson, keeper Gabrielle Fignar all limited Transy's attack in the shutout.
Sewanee will step outside conference play with a 10:30 a.m. match, Saturday against Earlham.
