Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. (Sept. 20, 2014) – Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival Centre rallied for a 4-3 overtime win against the Sewanee field hockey team, Saturday, at Puett Field.
Katie Wilson scored her first career goal in the 22nd minute, after she knocked a loose ball that was brought into the circle by teammate Monica Bueso.
Minutes later, Sarah Barry continued her outstanding season by taking a pass at midfield and driving to the cage. As Barry continued, the freshman forward beat Centre keeper Kirby Roberts one-on-one to push the Sewanee lead to 2-0.
The Colonels finally got on the board late in the half, when Julie Gates scored off a pass from Erin Mays.
Centre then opened the second half with another goal from Gates in the 38th minute.
With the match tied at 2-2, Sewanee retook the lead when Barry scored her second goal, this time from Carrie Anderson, with 15 minutes to play.
Unfortunately, Samantha Aguiar pushed across the equalizer late in the second half to send the match into overtime.
In the extra period, Centre used a five shot advantage and four corners to finally score the game-winner when Kesley Gordon hit the back of the cage in the 78th minute.
Individually, Allegra Massey-Elim and Sarah Barry both led the attack with three shots. In goal, Katya Waters and Gabrielle Fignar combined for nine saves.
Sewanee continues its SAA schedule with an 11:00 a.m. match next Saturday against rival Rhodes.
