Box Score BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Sept. 19, 2014) – An assist and an overtime game-winning goal by senior Solly Thomas led the Sewanee men's soccer team to a 2-1 OT victory against Huntingdon Friday evening.
Thomas helped Sewanee get on the board late in the first half when the senior captain found Reed Dowdy for the Tigers' first goal in the 38th minute.
Just when it looked like Sewanee would win the match in regulation, Huntingdon broke through in the final minute. With 52 seconds left, Zach Dedman scored off a corner kick from teammate Brendon Van Emelen to send the match into overtime.
In the extra golden-goal period, Sewanee fired two shots that went wide before Thomas found the back of the net in the 97th minute.
Sewanee finished with a 16-11 advantage over the Hawks in shots. The Tigers also added nine corner kicks while holding their foul total down.
The Tigers, who are now 3-4 this season, are a perfect 2-0 in overtime matches.
Sewanee continues its three-match road trip with a noon match at Ozarks, Sunday.
