SEWANEE, Tenn. (Aug. 29, 2014) – Four goals by sophomore Shelby Meckstroth and two by senior Jamie Samociuk led the Sewanee women's soccer team to a season-opening 6-0 victory against Bryan College, Friday, at Puett Field.

Holding possession early and often, Sewanee got on the scoreboard quickly when Meckstroth scored with less than five minutes off the clock.

After establishing offensive control over the next 12 minutes, Samociuk netted her first score with 16:31 off the clock.

Sewanee took a total of 15 shots in the first half en route to its 2-0 lead at halftime.

Out of the locker room the Tigers stayed on the attack.

Meckstroth would add three straight goals, including one off an assist from classmate Baker Walls in the 65th minute.

Finally, Samociuk would close the scoring with another goal in the 77th minute.

Sewanee, led by its offense and strong midfield, outshot Bryan 29-4. The Tigers also took eight corner kicks.

In goal, junior Olivia Glascoe and freshman Madison Bunderson combined to pitch the shutout.

Emily Lambert led Bryan with three shot attempts.

Sewanee returns to action on Tuesday with a 7:00 p.m. (EST) match at regional-rival Covenant College.
