Box Score 2 LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. (April 2, 2014) – Behind outstanding pitching, regional-rival Covenant earned a pair of wins against the Sewanee baseball team, Wednesday.
With the loss, the Tigers fall to 8-17 overall and a combined 4-10 in games played away from Montgomery Field.
In game one the Scots earned a 7-1 victory behind pitchers Taylor Bloye and Spencer Smith. Both Covenant pitchers combined to limit Sewanee to just one run on seven hits while striking out two.
After falling behind 4-0, the Tigers got on the board when Zack Sutton singled Jack Whaley home in the top of the fourth.
Unfortunately, Covenant added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Overall, Whaley and Michael Walker both finished 2-for-3 at the plate. Starter Alex Mockett took the loss after he allowed four runs on four hits in 2.0 innings of work.
In the nightcap, the Scots' bats stayed hot. Covenant scored four runs in the fourth, three in the fifth, and five in the sixth.
Sewanee scored in the top of the fifth, as Jackson Cooper drove in Chris Erdmier with a groundout to second.
As a team, Covenant finished with 15 hits while Sewanee managed three.
Freshman Tony Dykes took the loss after he allowed four runs on three hits while striking out one in 2.0 innings.
Covenant starter Jordan Lester earned the win after he toss 4.0 innings and limited Sewanee to just two hits.
Sewanee returns to Southern Athletic Association (SAA) play this weekend when the Tigers host Centre for a three-game series.
