SEWANEE, Tenn. (April 19, 2014) – Despite opening the day with a strong 4-0 win, the Sewanee baseball team fell just short of its first Southern Athletic Association (SAA) series win, Saturday, as Hendrix rallied late in the final game to split a doubleheader at Montgomery Field.

After the first game win, Sewanee dropped the nightcap 6-4.

In the opener, starter Charles Warren was outstanding. Warren tossed a six-hit complete game shutout while striking out two.

Warren also walked only two batters and limited the Warriors to no extra base hits.

At the plate, Sewanee got on the board when Brett Polston hit an RBI single that scored Zack Sutton. Later in the bottom of the second, Grant Goodson singled in Michael Walker. Two batters later Jack Whaley singled in Chris Erdmier to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead.

Sewanee would strike again in the bottom of the eighth, as Erdmier ripped an RBI single that scored Nate Barnett.

Overall, Goodson led the Tigers with a 2-for-3 performance, which included an RBI and a double. Polston also finished 2-for-4 with an RBI while Erdmier added two hits, an RBI, and a run scored.

In the nightcap, Hendrix opened with one run in the first and two in the second inning.

Despite its 3-0 deficit, Sewanee rallied back in the bottom of the fourth. In the inning Sewanee sent nine batters to the plate and scored four runs on three hits.

Hendrix responded back with an RBI single in the top of the fifth.

The score would remain knotted at 4-4 until the top of the seventh. Despite looking like the Tigers would get out of the inning undamaged, two bases loaded walks allowed Hendrix to take the lead for good.

Outfielder Jackson Cooper led the Tigers with a 2-for-4 performance, which included a double and run scored. Barnett also added a hit and two RBI while Bays added an RBI.
