A big eighth inning helps Berry to a three-game sweep

Box Score

SEWANEE, Tenn. (March 9, 2014) – A five-run eighth inning helped Southern Athletic Association (SAA) member Berry to an 8-4 win over the Sewanee baseball team, Sunday, at Montgomery Field.

With the score tied 3-3, the Vikings sent nine batters to the plate and scored five runs on three hits in the top of eighth. Those runs kept Berry ahead despite a Brett Polston's RBI in the bottom half of inning.

Down 3-0, the Tigers tied the game with two runs in the fifth and one in the bottom of the sixth. In the fifth, Ryan Poole ripped a two-RBI double that scored Chris Erdmier and Jackson Cooper.

An inning later, shortstop Grant Goodson hit a single that plated Jack Rogers.

On the mound, Berry starter TJ Montgomery gave up four hits while allowing two runs (none earned) for a no decision. Chad Busby then came in to start the seventh and earned the win after he allowed one run in 2.0 innings of work.

At the plate, Rogers finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored while Poole produced two RBI.

The Tigers continue SAA play with a three-game series at Oglethorpe beginning on March 13.
