No. 16 Rhodes earns two wins over Sewanee

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (March 29, 2014) – Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival No. 16 Rhodes opened its three-game conference series with the Sewanee baseball team with a pair of victories Saturday at Stauffer Field.

The nationally ranked Lynx earned a 16-0 win in the opener and then held on for a 1-0 victory in the nightcap.

Rhodes opened game one with a bang. The Lynx scored 10 runs to open the first inning and then followed with four in the second and two in the third.

Lynx starter Blake Glauben earned the win after he limited Sewanee to no runs and two hits while striking out six.

The lone Tigers to reach base were Zack Sutton and Michael Walker.

In the second game, Rhodes scored the lone run of the game, when David Balaguer drove a SAC fly to left field that scored Andrew Wallis.

On the mound, Rhodes continued to pitch well. Lynx starter Adam Putnam earned the complete game win after he allowed only two hits while striking out five.

Tiger starter Mike O'Neil also pitched well in the loss. O'Neil allowed only one run and six hits while striking out one in 6.0 innings.

Sewanee and Rhodes will wrap up their three-game series with a 1:00 p.m. game, Sunday.
