Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. (March 19, 2014) – An eight-goal first half helped rival Washington & Lee to a 13-7 victory over the Sewanee men's lacrosse team Wednesday at historic Wilson Field.
The loss drops the Tigers' record to 4-3 while the Generals improved to 4-4.
After three goals in the first period, W&L netted five goals in the second. The Tigers did manage two goals in the first half, one from Davis Brown and one man-up goal from Hayden Byrd.
Out of the locker room, W&L stayed in control. Back-to-back goals from Cam Lewis and a score from Cameron Dabir pushed the Generals' lead to 11-2.
Sewanee finally found some rhythm as Brooks Robinson and Cotter Brown closed out the third period with goals.
In the final period, Sewanee outscored W&L 3-2. Brown, Byrd, and Davis Brown all scored in the final 15 minutes.
Overall, Sewanee finished with 35 shots while the Generals fired 51 attempts. W&L also forced more turnovers and finished with more ground balls. Sewanee did have a 13-12 advantage in face-offs.
Individually, Cotter and Davis Brown, along with Byrd, all scored two goals. In goal, senior Tommy Healy finished with 13 saves.
Dabir led W&L with five goals. Fellow attacker Lewis finished with four goals on 15 shots.
Sewanee returns to historic Hardee-McGee Field at Harris Stadium for a 3:00 p.m. contest against Southern Athletic Association (SAA) member Oglethorpe.
