Box Score 2 SEWANEE, Tenn. (March 1, 2014) – No. 24 Birmingham-Southern earned a pair of Southern Athletic Association (SAA) wins over the Sewanee baseball team Saturday at Montgomery Field.
The Panthers earned a 14-2 win in the opener and a 15-3 victory in the nightcap.
Game One
BSC opened the game with a strong first inning. The Panthers plated eight runs in the first and then two more runs in the third inning.
After another run by BSC in the top of the fourth, Sewanee finally got on the board as Michael Walker drove in Zack Sutton with a single.
The Tigers would eventually score once more as Ben Clune ripped an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh.
Clune led Sewanee at the plate with two hits and an RBI.
Game Two
In the second game of the doubleheader, BSC jumped out in front with seven runs through the first five innings.
The Panthers then broke open the game with eight runs on five hits in the top of the seventh.
Sewanee answered back into the bottom half of the inning with three runs.
Overall, the Tigers were limited on offense as BSC starter Miles Nordgren allowed only one run and five hits while striking out five in 5.0 innings of work.
Sewanee and BSC will conclude their three-game series with a 1:00 p.m. game, Sunday.
