Box Score DANVILLE, Ky. (Feb. 28, 2014) – Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival Rhodes led from start to finish, as the Lynx topped the Sewanee men's basketball team 78-64 in the SAA Tournament, Friday, inside Alumni Gymnasium on the campus of Centre College.
The Tigers end their season with a 13-13 overall record. Rhodes moves into the conference semifinals with a 15-11 mark.
The Lynx opened the game on a 13-4 run. Rhodes then used another offensive spurt to lead by 13, 27-14, when Drew Miller hit a three with 8:08 left in the half.
Eventually, the Lynx closed out the opening 20 minutes of play with a 40-26 advantage.
In the second half, Sewanee tried to respond. A three by Jorden Williams and a back-to-back shots from Marcellus Cardwell cut the Tiger deficit to nine, 42-33, with 18:10 to play.
Unfortunately, Rhodes would lead by as much as 16 when Miller hit another three four minutes later.
The Tigers would pull to within single digits with 6:05 left, after a pair of free throws from Leo Born.
However, down the stretch, Rhodes stayed strong. Free throws by Shane Watson, Luke Collins, and Patrick McGrail helped seal the win.
Overall, Rhodes made 51.0 percent of its shots. That included a 7-of-16 effort from beyond the three-point line.
Sewanee finished with a 47.6 field goal percentage. The Tigers were undone by 15 turnovers, including eight in the first half.
Individually, Williams closed out his freshman season with a game-high 21 points. Caldwell also scored in double figures with a season-high 16 points.
