Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. (Oct. 26, 2014) – A goal by sophomore Shelby Meckstroth in overtime, lifted the Sewanee women's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival Birmingham-Southern, Sunday, at Puett Field.
The Tigers are now 12-4 overall and 5-1 in conference play. More importantly with Rhodes's loss at Berry Sunday, Sewanee is now second in the SAA standings. Berry currently leads the league with a 6-0 mark. The Vikings and Tigers are scheduled to meet on November 1.
BSC got on the board first, when Avery Newcomb scored on a long shot over the head of the Sewanee defense from 25-yards out.
Only three minutes later, Sewanee responded back. Tyler Edell tipped in a long pass that was sent into the box for the equalizer.
Both teams would continue to battle into overtime when senior Jamie Samociuk ripped a shot that bounced off BSC keeper Ansley Tomlin. On the ensuing rebound, Meckstroth netted the game-winner.
