SEWANEE, Tenn. (Oct. 24, 2014) – Two second-half goals helped the Sewanee women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory Friday over Southern Athletic Association (SAA) foe Millsaps at Puett Field.
The win helped the Tigers keep pace in the SAA Regular Season Championship race. The Tigers still trail Rhodes and Berry with three matches to be played.
After honoring seniors Grace Priest, Jamie Samociuk, and Emily Driver prior to the match, it was the trio of seniors that provided the offense against the Majors.
Sewanee got on the board in the 51st minute when Driver tapped in a pass from Samociuk.
Millsaps eventually tied the contest on a great play by Lindy Robichaux. After a ball was played into the top of the box, Robichaux tapped the ball over Sewanee keeper Olivia Glascoe in the 71st minute.
Sewanee finally fired home the equalizer, after a corner kick created traffic in the box. On the two ensuing loose ball attempts, Mary "Sissy" Frank found Priest in front on the net for the game-winner.
Overall, Sewanee fired shot after shot against Millsaps keeper Elise Davis. Davis finished with 16 saves after the Tigers fired 32 attempts.
The Tigers close out their home schedule with a noon match against Birmingham-Southern, Sunday.
