Women's soccer winning streak snapped at Rhodes

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (Oct. 17, 2014) – The Sewanee women's soccer team's four-match winning streak was snapped Friday, as Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival Rhodes defeated the Tigers 3-0 at the Rhodes Soccer Complex.

Sewanee is now 9-4-0 overall and is 2-1-0 in SAA action. Rhodes improved to 7-3-2 overall and now sits atop the league standings at 2-0-1.

Nicolette Gidden scored the first goal of the match, as the forward fired a shot past outcoming Sewanee keeper Olivia Glascoe.

The score would remain 1-0 until late in the second half. In the 72nd minute Brooke Tomlin fired in the second goal for Rhodes off a cross from Sarah Watcher.

Minutes later the Lynx added one final insurance score when Gidden finished another cross, this one from Hannah Selner.

Overall, Rhodes outshot Sewanee 16-9. The Tigers did edge out the Lynx in corner kicks, 5-4.

Individually, senior Jamie Samociuk and sophomore Mary "Sissy" Frank led the Sewanee attack with two shots.

Sewanee returns to action with a noon contest at Hendrix, Sunday.
