Box Score CONWAY, Ark. (Oct. 12, 2014) – Three goals and an assist by freshman Sarah Barry helped the Sewanee field hockey team defeat Roanoke 6-1, Sunday, on the campus of Hendrix College.
The first-year Tiger now has 13 goals this season and has finished with at least one point in all but two of Sewanee's matches.
The Tigers (6-6) continued their offense output after scoring three goals in the second half on Saturday. Sewanee jumped out to a quick lead when Allegra Massey-Elim netted the first goal off a pass from Barry.
Than, just over 10 minutes later, Barry scored her first goal off an outstanding assist from Kya Wence.
Katerina DeSimone cut the Roanoke deficit to one, 2-1, when her shot got past Katya Waters in the 22nd minute.
However any chance of a Roanoke comeback was short lived, as Barry scored again four minutes later. This time it was Massey-Elim who found Barry in front of the cage.
Janie Spilman then scored in the 31st minute, which gave the Tigers a 4-1 lead at halftime.
Out of the locker room, Carrie Anderson pushed an early goal home early in the second half. Only three minutes off the clock, Anderson scored off a pass from Kat Mulligan.
Finally, Barry capped off her outstanding performance with an unassisted goal in the 46th minute.
Despite the lopsided score, Roanoke and Sewanee were even statistically. The Tigers had a slight 13-12 advantage in shots while the Maroons finished with a 6-5 lead in corners.
Sewanee returns home with its final match on the Domain next Saturday. The Tigers welcome Transylvania to Puett Field on Senior Day and Family Weekend.
