Box Score ATLANTA (Oct. 11, 2014) – A golden-goal by Max Hawes in double overtime helped the Sewanee men's soccer team defeat Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival Oglethorpe 2-1, Saturday, at Salamone Field.
Saturday was the second straight match the Tigers played a double-overtime contest. After posting a draw against Centre last Saturday, Sewanee is now 3-0-1 in extra period matches.
After OU scored in the 14th minute, Sewanee fought back. A late second-half goal by senior captain Walker Ueland off a pass from Richard Huber tied the contest.
That would eventually lead to Hawes's game-winner in the second overtime off an assist from Solly Thomas.
Overall, OU edged out Sewanee in shot attempts 24-21.
The Tigers, who are now 1-0-1 in league play, continue their SAA season with a 4:00 p.m. match at rival Rhodes, Friday.
