Box Score

Sewanee, Tenn. (Jan. 14, 2014) – For the second consecutive game, the Sewanee men's basketball team roll past an opponent after shooting the ball well. After making 44.4 percent of their attempts, the Tigers defeated regional-rival Covenant, 68-51, Tuesday night inside Juhan Gymnasium.

With the victory, Sewanee improved to 9-4 overall and has now won 13 straight games at home. That streak dates back to January 2013. Tuesday's win also evens the season series with the Scots. After Covenant won in November, both teams are now 1-1 against each in 2013-14.

In the opening 10 minutes, Sewanee jumped out to 14-9 lead. From there, three points by Leo Born and a layup by Keshonn Carter pushed the Tigers' advantage to eight, 19-11, with 4:11 left in the first half.

Covenant would respond by closing the half on a 5-2 to run. That offensive spurt cut the Scots' deficit to six, 22-16, at the break.

Out of the locker room, Covenant continued to play well early. Back-to-back jumpers by Colten McGriff trimmed Sewanee's lead to 25-20 with 18:58 left.

However, Sewanee would answer with a layup by Seth Brown. The score would stay around that deficit until a three by Born with 5:33 remaining. Born's shot started an 18-10 run, which helped Sewanee put the game away.

Overall, Sewanee has made better than 40 percent in its attempts last two games. The Tigers also finished with their highest free throw percentage of the season (84.9 percent).

Additionally, Sewanee outrebounded Covenent 39-27. The Tigers also limited the Scots to a 2-of-13 effort from outside the three-point arc.

Individually, freshman Jorden Williams led all scorers with a game-high 19 points. Brown, who finished with 15 points, and Born, who added 10, joined Williams in double figures.

McGriff led Covenant with a team-high 15 points.

With its non-conference season finished, Sewanee will look to continue its winning streak in Southern Athletic Association (SAA) play. The Tigers are scheduled to host Centre with a 3:00 p.m. game, Saturday.
