Box Score

SEWANEE, Tenn. (Jan. 12, 2014) – A 47.8 field goal percentage helped the Sewanee men's basketball team extend its home winning streak to 12 straight games Sunday, as the Tigers rolled past Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Millsaps, 64-50 inside Juhan Gymnasium.

Sewanee is now 8-4 overall and 2-1 in conference play. The Tigers have also stayed unbeaten at home this season with a 7-0 record.

In fact, Sewanee has not lost inside Juhan Gymnasium since January 22, 2013 against Covenant. The Tigers are scheduled to host the Scots in their next game. That contest is scheduled to begin at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday.

After the Majors got off to a quick start, Sewanee settled in with four straight points from junior Marcellus Caldwell.

The game stayed close over the next eight minutes. With the score tied 16-16, Garrett Heatherly pushed Sewanee ahead for good with a pair of free throws.

Over the remaining nine minutes, Sewanee slowly started to pull away. The Tigers closed the half on a 17-6 run.

In the second half, Millsaps would close its deficit to four, 37-33, when Ryan Berger made a layup with 16:28 to play.

After a pair of free throws by Leo Born, freshman Jorden Williams extended the lead to eight, 41-33, with a jumper at the 15:01 mark.

From there every time Millsaps would try to rally, Sewanee had an answer. The Majors would not get any closer the remainder of the game.

Along with its overall field goal percentage, the Tigers made their highest three-point percentage since December 7. Sewanee finished 8-of-20 (40 percent) from beyond the three-point arc.

The Tigers also had an efficient 12 assists on 22 made shots.

Defensively, Sewanee forced 13 turnovers, which led to 20 points. The Tigers also limited the Majors to a 5-of-20 effort on three-point attempts.

Individually, Williams, Keshonn Carter, and Matt Tome all led the Tigers with 13 points each. Carter also grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.

Forward Tully Gilligan led Millsaps with a game-high 17 points. He was joined in double figures by guard Ryan Berger, who had 13 points, and Mac McElveen, who finished with 11.
