Box Score DANVILLE, Ky. (Sept. 7, 2013) – A late goal with eight seconds left pushed the Sewanee field hockey team to a 4-3 win over Roanoke, Saturday, in Danville, Ky.
With the score knotted at 3-3, freshman Carrie Anderson added her second goal of the match off a corner pass from senior Mary Kate McAlister.
Six minutes before that goal, Anderson tied the contest with a shot off a strong pass from Karen Dawson.
Early in the match, Roanoke jumped in front when Shelbi Holloman netted a goal in the sixth minute.
After back-to-back scores from Dawson and Kat Mulligan, Roanoke took back the lead off of goals from Emily McQueen and Isabella Lucia.
Overall, Sewanee outshot Roanoke by 11 attempts, 31-20. Additionally, the aggressive Tigers finished with an 11-9 advantage in corners.
Individually, Anderson continued her strong play this season with 10 shots, six attempts on-goal, two scores, and one assist.
Additionally, Dawson added two goals off two proficient shots. Finally, McAlister, Emma Horgan, and Boozer all had more than one shot attempt.
In goal, keepers Ellie Barton and Gabrielle Fignar combined for nine saves in 70 minutes.
The Tigers will quickly return to action with its first Southern Athletic Association match of the season, Sunday. Sewanee will take on host Centre at 11:00 a.m. (EST).
