LEXINGTON, Va. (Sept. 28, 2013) – A strong third quarter helped long-time rival Washington & Lee defeat the Sewanee football team 35-24, Saturday, at Wilson Field.

With the Generals leading 21-17 at halftime, W&L came out and scored 14 unanswered points to begin the second half.

W&L (2-1) opened the game when tailback Austin Eisenhofer capped off a six play, 80-yard drive with a 37-yard touchdown run.

Sewanee responded on its opening drive with a 15-yard touchdown run by sophomore running back Devante Jones. On the drive, the Tigers rushed nine times for 73 yards.

After one-yard touchdown run by Marshall Hollerith, both defenses settled in over the next two possessions.

The Tigers tied the game at 14-14, when senior Curtis Johnson found Charlie Powell for a touchdown pass for the second consecutive week. After scoring from 27 yards out last week against Maryville, Johnson found Powell for a 40-yard touchdown strike, Saturday.

Later in the second quarter, W&L again took the lead when Hollerith found the end zone from three yards out with 9:02 left before halftime.

The Tigers added one final score before the break, when Callum Wishart booted a 27-yard field goal.

Unfortunately, out of the locker room, W&L scored on a two-yard run by Jimmy Moynahan and a one-yard run by Hollerith.

Sewanee added one late touchdown when sophomore quarterback Cody Daniel ran into the end zone from 36 yards out.

Overall, W&L limited Sewanee to its second lowest rushing total of the season. The Tigers ran for only 218 yards on 43 carries.

The Generals finished with 458 yards on the ground and a seven minute advantage in the time of possession.

Individually, Daniel finished with a season-high 64 yards of total offense and one touchdown.

Defensively, safety Alex Kops added a career-high 12 tackles.
