Box Score 2 SEWANEE, Tenn. (April 6, 2013) – Despite early leads in both games, the Sewanee baseball team dropped a doubleheader to Southern Athletic Association (SAA) foe Millsaps Saturday at Montgomery Field.
The Tigers jumped to a 6-0 lead after two innings of play, but Millsaps fought back to take the 9-6 come-from-behind victory in the first game of the afternoon doubleheader. After scoring four runs in the first inning and two more in the second, Sewanee could manage only two hits the rest of the game against the Majors' bullpen.
Blake Williams paced the Sewanee offense with three hits, including a triple, in five trips to the plate with two RBI. Michael Walker, James Snover, Ben Clune, Allen Thigpen and Nate Barnett chipped in one hit each. Walker drove in two runs with his hit.
Freshman Worth Osgood picked up the loss on the mound for Sewanee. Osgood allowed seven runs, four earned, on nine hits in 4.1 innings of work.
In game two, back-to-back homeruns from Walker and Thigpen in the bottom of the first inning staked the Tigers to an early 4-0 lead.
The Tigers carried a 5-3 lead into the top of the last inning of the scheduled seven-inning game, but the Majors rallied for five runs with two outs and held on for the 8-5 win.
Williams again led the Tigers with two hits. Walker had a three-run homerun, while Thigpen belted a solo shot. Clune and Jack Rogers rounded out the Sewanee offense with one hit each.
Jimmy Robbins suffered the loss in relief of starter Marshall Ussery.
With the losses the Tigers fall to 6-18 overall and 0-13 in SAA play.
The Tigers and the Majors will wrap up their three-game series tomorrow with a single game at Montgomery Field scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
