Sewanee earns a berth in SAA Championship match with win over BSC

SEWANEE, Tenn. (April 26, 2013) – The Sewanee men's lacrosse team earned a berth in the first-ever Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Championship match after the Tigers rolled over Birmingham-Southern in the SAA semifinals, 17-8, Friday at Puett Field.

After the No. 4-seeded Panthers scored first, Sewanee took its first lead after Michael Morris and Reed Daniel scored.

From there, Davis Brown would net the first of his career-high six scores when he pushed the Tiger advantage to 3-2 with a goal at the end of the first period.

By halftime Sewanee built its lead to four, 9-5. Out of the locker room the Tigers kept rolling. Goals by Morris, Drew Lincoln, Brown, and Pierce Leonard helped Sewanee to a 14-7 by the end of the third period.

In the final frame Brown, Leonard, and Daniel all capped off the scores with more goals.

Overall, Sewanee outshot BSC 46-26. The Tigers also finished with more ground balls and face-offs wins.

Along with Brown, Morris finished with six goals and three assists. Additionally, Daniel and Leonard finished with two scores while Lincoln added his lone goal.

The Tigers will now take on Berry College, who won its long rainy semifinal match against Centre, Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
