Box Score 2 SEWANEE, Tenn. (April 18, 2013) – The Sewanee softball team dropped a pair of contest against regional-rival Tennessee Temple Thursday at the Sewanee softball field.
The Crusaders opened the day with a 10-0 win and then followed by taking the nightcap by a 9-1 score.
Sarah Fleming had two hits in three trips to the plate to lead the Tigers in the first game of the doubleheader. Sarah Anne Hamilton, Grace Cobbs, Michelle Thibodeaux and Emily Culbertson each had one hit.
Cooper Killen suffered the loss in the circle for Sewanee.
In the second game of the doubleheader, Sarah Burklin was a perfect three-for-three at the plate to lead Sewanee's seven-hit attack. Kayla Sewell and Cobbs picked up two hits each. Sewell's hit was a towering homerun, her first of the season, in the bottom of the inning that accounted for the Tigers' only run of the game. Fleming and Hamilton both contributed one hit.
Hamilton was charged with the loss for the Tigers.
With the doubleheader loss Sewanee drops to 5-23 on the season.
The Tigers will be back in action this weekend when they host the Centre Colonels in a four-game Southern Athletic Association series. A doubleheader is scheduled to begin on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
