Box Score CONWAY, Ark. (April 14, 2013) – Needing to hold Southern Athletic Association (SAA) foe Hendrix to five goals or less Sunday, the Sewanee men's lacrosse team did just that as the Tigers wrapped up the No. 1 seed in the upcoming SAA Tournament with a 13-5 win over the Warriors.
With Sewanee, Berry, and Centre all tied in league play with a 6-1 record, the Tigers won the tiebreaker based on league rules. Sewanee will now host the upcoming SAA Men's Lacrosse Tournament while Centre earned the No. 2 seed and Berry finished as the No. 3 seed.
In the first period Sewanee jumped out front early, when Jack Murray, Davis Brown, Michael Morris, and Reed Daniel all scored.
A period later the Tigers kept adding to their lead, when Morris scored twice.
Up 6-2 as second half play began, Morris, Brown, Pierce Leonard, Drew Lincoln, and Daniel all found the back of the net.
Overall, Sewanee outshot Hendrix 34-20 and also forced a match-high 25 turnovers. Additionally, the Tigers earned more ground balls and and face-offs.
Individually, Morris finished with five goals while Davis Brown pitched in three. Additionally, Daniel, Cotter Brown, Leonard, and Lincoln also finished with more than one point.
Sewanee will now host No. 8 seed Oglethorpe next weekend as quarterfinal action of the SAA Tournament gets underway.
