Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C. (March 8, 2013) – The Sewanee men's lacrosse team dropped its first match of the season, Friday, as host Greensboro defeated the Tigers 11-9 at Pride Field.
With the loss, Sewanee fell to 3-1 overall.
Greensboro led early after the Pride built a 7-3 lead by the end of the first period. Down by four, Sewanee rallied in the second after three goals by Pierce Leonard and a score by Michael Morris.
Tied 7-7 at halftime, each team added another two goals in the third.
Unfortunately, Greensboro found its offense again in the fourth. The Pride add three straight goals to start the period. Down 12-9 with 10 minutes left, Davis Brown briefly cut the Tiger deficit with back-to-back goals. However, Greensboro responded with two additional scores late.
Individually, Leonard and Brown each finished with four goals. Additionally, Morris pitched in two scores while Jack Murray added one.
The Tigers will look get back to their winning ways, when Sewanee takes on Virginia Wesleyan with a 1:00 p.m. (EST) match Sunday in Charlottesville, Va.
