Offense powers No. 8 Birmingham-Southern past Sewanee

Box Score

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (March 2, 2013) – Six players drove in runs to help Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival and nationally ranked No. 8 Birmingham-Southern past the Sewanee baseball team, 11-1, Saturday at Striplin Field.

After BSC scored a pair of runs in the second and three more in the third, Sewanee finally got on the board when Jack Rogers drove in Jack Whaley with an RBI single to center field.

Unfortunately, that was all BSC starter Blake Stevens gave up.

An inning later the Panthers added two more runs, when Jacob Mayfield crushed a homerun over the left field wall.

BSC would close the scoring when the Panthers added four more runs in the bottom of the eighth.

Stevens picked up the win for BSC after he allowed only two hits while striking out six in five innings of work.

The Tigers will look to rebound when BSC and Sewanee closes out the three-game series with a doubleheader, Sunday. The first game is schedule to begin at noon.
