Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. (Feb. 5, 2013) – Over the past 15 seasons there have been no Sewanee men's basketball teams that have won six straight games. On Tuesday that changed, as the Tigers matched the 1997-98 team's six-game winning streak with 71-61 victory over Hiwassee College.
Additionally, with the win, the Tigers improved their overall record to 14-7. Sewanee is also 7-3 this season inside Juhan Gymnasium.
In the first half both teams were competitive. Sewanee jumped out to a quick lead after senior Lewis Affronti knocked in a three on the very first possession.
After a rally by Hiwassee, the Tigers finally opened a 10-point advantage, 24-14, after Garrett Heatherly, Leo Born, Seth Brown, and Affronti capped off a 10-0 run with 8:57 left.
Up 34-26 at halftime, Sewanee came out of the locker room strong. Layups by Keshonn Carter, Tyler Brown, and Brett Bouldin quickly pushed the lead to 13, 39-26, with 17:27 to play.
Later in the half, Bouldin finally put the game out of reach when his third three of the game sparked another 10-0 run with 10:02 left.
Sewanee converted 27-of-58 field goal attempts, including an 11-of-24 effort behind the three-point arc.
Bouldin led the Tigers with a game-high 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting. In fact, Bouldin's 19 points were the second highest single-game total this season for Sewanee.
Additionally, Affronti finished with 14 points while the Tigers' third senior Tyler Brown added 10.
Guard Justin Browner led Hiwassee with a team-high 17 points.
The Tigers will look to push their winning streak to seven when Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival Millsaps travels to Sewanee, Friday. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
