Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. (Oct. 26, 2013) – No. 24 ranked Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival Millsaps took advantage of a pair of Sewanee turnovers that led to touchdowns, as the Majors held on for a 21-14 win over the Tigers Saturday.
After Millsaps scored late in the first quarter, the Majors took advantage of a Sewanee fumble at the 39-yard line with 34 seconds left in the first half.
After quarterback Zak Thrasher completed three passes to receiver Beau Wells, Millsaps had the ball inside the Tiger one-yard line with less than a minute left. Three plays later, Thrasher threw a well-placed fade into the corner of end zone where receiver Zander Roman reached up for the touchdown.
In the second half, the Tigers quickly scored on their first drive. After a long 45-yard run by Curtis Johnson, the senior quarterback found junior tailback Barrett Goodson on an 18-yard pass play that set up a first and goal at the Millsaps three. A play later, Johnson rushed into the end zone which made the score 14-7.
After the Tigers got the ball back, Millsaps used another turnover to push its lead to 21-7. After the turnover, running back Mike Barthelemy capped off a seven play drive with a two-yard touchdown run.
Sewanee would add one final score, when Johnson found the end zone on the Tigers' first possession of the fourth quarter.
Overall, Johnson finished his final home game with 107 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
Additionally, Cortez Brown rushed for 44 yards on seven carries.
Defensively, freshman rover Alex Kops finished with a career and game-high 16 tackles, including 1.5 tackles for a loss. Senior Dave McKeithen also added 10 stops, including 2.5 tackles for a loss.
The Majors were led on offense by workhorse tailback Barthelemy, who rushed 38 times for 167 yards and two touchdowns.
Sewanee will look try to snap its three-game losing streak on Nov. 9 at Berry. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. EST.
